LOST BOYS

suspended in a moment of loss
the murmur of normal days a distance memory
the comforting arena hum now soul shattering
no innocence left in this town
a disillusioned fog settles in for an unknown stay
no beginning or end in sight
the question of why, redundant
a numbness that evades tears
they fall but aren’t felt
reduced to a lyric that can never be heard
sundown once again in the prairies
treasures that should not have to be buried
the endlessness of an hour
the worries of the past pale in contrast of this anguished time
the question why, echoing in a perpetual loop
the narrative of tragedy
the impact of a nightmare that comes to life
today there is nothing but sadness
tomorrow there will be humanity
